So there used to be this little restaurant at the base of town that was in my hometown during my young childhood years they served the BEST pizza breads and milkshakes ever!!! I have memories of my mom and me going to Village Inn drive through to get pizza breads and milkshakes

anyway when Village Inn closed down I have not been able to find another pizza bread quite like that one.

This is my attempt at making one and let me tell you I got pretty close but not quite there so I will continue working on my pizza sauce recipe(I will not be sharing that just yet) and see if we can get it closer!

So the other evening I made Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches and realized I had more bread left over so I decided to give pizza breads a whirl and here is what I came up with

Ingredients:

  • Hoagie rolls
  • butter
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • fresh mozzarella
  • parmesan cheese
  • pizza sauce(I made mine from scratch and one day I will share that recipe too but for now just use your favorite sauce)
  • Pepperoni(I used mini)
  • Turkey sausage (although you can use pork, but honestly I couldn’t tell a difference, believe me I would tell you if I could)

Directions:

  •  preheat toaster oven
  • melt 4 tablespoons of butter(you can also use spray butter)
  • add minced garlic(if you use spray butter use garlic powder)
  • brush hoagie rolls
  • toast until golden brown
  • take out of oven
  • put 1 tablespoon of sauce on one side of hoagie and repeat on the other side(covering the bread more or less depending on your desired amount of sauce)
  • cut slices of fresh mozzarella and scatter on top of the sauce(this will not cover the bread or the sauce and that is okay
  • sprinkle sausage and peperoni(any other toppings you want)
  • place directly on the rack and bake until cheese is melted and gooey
  • remove and place pizza bread together
  • let rest for 1 minute
  • slice pizza bread in half
  • enjoy

if you are going to be trying this recipe please let us know below
