I LOVE Philly Cheese-steaks and have never worked with Phyllo dough but I was very interested and wanted to play one night last week.

My original plan was to wrap up the mixture and deep fry but quickly after I opened phyllo dough I knew that was not going to happen(that is the fun part of experimenting in the kitchen it doesn’t always go to plan)

So here is what I did instead

Ingredients

  • 1/2 phyllo dough package thawed

  • 1 package of sirloin steak shredded 1 pound

  • 3 cups pepper jack cheese

  • 1 small onion diced

  • 1 small green bell pepper diced

  • Pam cooking spray

  • olive oil

  • salt and pepper to taste

  • 1 tablespoon worchestshire saue

Directions

  • pre-heat oven to 375 degrees
  • In a skillet add a tablespoon of olive oil
  • saute onion and pepper until tender
  • To the hot skillet add steak and cook until brown through and tender
  • add a tablespoon of worchesteshire sauce, salt/pepper to taste to cooking meat and onions/peppers
  • spay a cookie sheet with Pam cooking spray
  • open one package of phyllo dough(the box I bought had two separate packages… do not open until you are ready… see note below on how to work with Phyllo dough
  • lay 2 sheets of phyllo dough on the greased cookie sheet
  • add 1 cup of cheese to the phyllo dough
  • lay 2 more sheets of phyllo dough to the top of the cheese spray with Pam cooking spray
  • add half the steak mixture spreading over the phyllo dough
  • lay 2 more sheets of phyllo dough to the top of the steak layer spray with Pam cooking spray
  • add 1 cup of cheese spreading over the phyllo dough
  • lay 2 more sheets of phyllo dough to the top of the cheese spray with Pam cooking spray
  • add the other half of the steak mixture spreading over the phyllo dough
  • lay 2 more sheets of phyllo dough to the top of the steak mixture spray with Pam cooking spray
  • add the last 1 cup of cheese spreading over the phyllo dough
  • lay 2 more sheets of phyllo dough to the top of the cheese mixture spray with Pam cooking spray
  • set the cookie sheet containing the phyllo philly cheese-steak in the heated oven and bake for 20 minutes or until Golden brown(keep a watch on it)
  • remove from oven and allow to sit for 5 minutes prior to slicing
  • slice into triangles or squares and serve with mustard, mayo or your favorite topping

Notes

  • Phyllo dough is very fragile and will dry out very quickly so only open when you are ready to use and lay a damp towel over the phyllo dough to keep fresh and moist.
  • Be careful when handling phyllo dough as it tears easily

Like my fancy plates? LOL Yes that is a joke but seriously this is real life and I make use of paper plates a lot especially when it is just me and mom eating we aren’t fancy people:)
